Formation and Forward Propagation of the Indosinian Foreland Fold‐Thrust Belt and Nanpanjiang Foreland Basin in SW China

Orogenic growth, characterized by formation and forward propagation of fold-thrust belts foreland basins, is predicted wedge models thrust systems. The growth the Nanpanjiang belt basin system Indosinian orogenic in southwestern South China remains poorly understood. development underappreciated due to few constraints on structural styles, kinematics ages. Surface cross sections, seismic profiles detrital zircon data are presented address styles evolution system. results reveal that fault-related folds with deeper duplexes shallower imbricates, which yield a NNE-SSW regional shortening magnitude ∼36%. Our new indicate region experienced multi-staged thrusting during orogeny (D1). D11 affected southernmost southern belt, producing thick-skinned thrusts involving Neoproterozoic basement initiating basin. During D12, NNE-verging continued was followed thin-skinned northern belt. Locally preserved deposits at northernmost Basin define D13. progressive D14 co-axially deformed residual into wide gentle syncline. Thus, deformation sequence in-sequence migration describe kinematic dynamic relationship between tectonic event. D1 structures were subsequently refolded Yanshanian event (D2), forming N- NE-striking cleavage arcuation fold axes.
